Joanna Macy, Rilke and The World

I learned of Joanna Macy through one of my new favorite podcasts, On Being, which explores ethics, faith and ideas. She’s a philosopher of ecology, a Buddhist scholar, and a translator of the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke. She also worked for the CIA in Germany and lived in India, caring for Tibetan refugees. The sun and warmth were a welcome change, so I put off going inside for a bit, and instead walked to the fjord, book and notebook in hand. It...

Here are some things relating to bodies, the psychology behind our perception of them, and how we’re dealing with it all. - – - Canadian cover model Coco Rocha speaks out against the damaging practices of the fashion [...]

The Trouble With Humans

(photo by Flickr user Slightly North) “According to America’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, work-related suicides increased 28% between 2007 and 2008. … the problem is deeper and more complicated than a callous management team that cares about nothing except profits. The problem is also in us.” - Peter Bregman, “Diversify Yourself,” Harvard Business Review. “However difficult, leaders [...]
